We meet in the Serrano River Sector,
where we pass out waterproof jackets and life vests. Then
we start our navigation descending the Serrano River heading
toward Glacier Serrano in semi-rigid boats. During the journey,
we will make a short stop at Salto Serrano (a geologic depression
that makes for strong water rapids). This obliges us to
leave the boat and take a short walk of five minutes, where
we pass the rapid and board another boat to continue with
our trip.
During the voyage, we enjoy the flora and fauna along the
river with continuous views of the Paine Massif and Glacier
Tyndall. We eventually arrive to Glacier Serrano. This is
the gateway to “Bernardo O'Higgins National Park,” which
is one of the biggest parks in Chile. Here we walk to the
viewpoint of Glacier Serrano. If we’re lucky, we’ll be able
to contemplate the blocks of ice calving and splashing into
the lagoon below.
We return to the port by 13:15 hours, where we take a short
5-minute navigation to Hostería Balmaceda for lunch.
After lunch, we receive new waterproof jackets and a life
vests to enjoy the rest of our adventure, warm and dry.
We return upriver in the semi-rigid boats (about 1:40 hours)
and reach the Salto Serrano rapids, where we will again
walk around the rapid and hop on the next boat to continue
the final 20 minutes of our navigation, which ends in Torres
del Paine National Park.
